Whats up with the way people write these days?
"hw r u ppl doin? its gettin more n more common 2 c ppl write lyk dis. dis started wid d instant mssngr long time back but now ppl use if all over the place. i get emails, msgs n d facebook status/comments are also full of dis. i m nt sure if ppl who use this lang actually remember ne spellings and if dey r still capable of writing using "actual" words. whts ur opinion on this? do u find it kool?"
I am not sure if I should call this "lingo" wrong or bad, but personally I can't stand it! I can see how using abbreviations or short-forms (you -> u, are -> r) can be useful during chatting in terms of saving time and effort, but this usage is getting worse with every keystroke and, I think, an effort should be made to keep it under control. There are many more instances of erroneous usage introduced because of this type of pseudo-English. I often find people using "your" or "ur" for "you are".
This issue has been discussed on the internet a few times. Here are some examples (from www.reddit.com): Link1 Link2
i dunno if ur gonna strt hatin me 4 dis, but i wud lyk 2 reqst u 2 use dis "style" 4 communicating wid ppl who u no (know) r gonna lyk it.

I totally agree. I don't like the abbreviated language either.
Well I would like to be the devil's advocate to fuel the debate, whether we like it or not language always evolves, be it written or spoken.
So if this short forms of usage finds acceptance, you never know, may become the language of tomorrow. It is not just about being cool but convenience and usually convenient things are not pleasant.
So even if we do not like it, it may prevail if it finds wider acceptance. similarly in case it is not natural and people do not like it then it will have it's natural death and will vanish like a fad.
On a different note, how are you and Gargi, send in some snaps (Aaheli and Sucheta wanted to see you guys)
I do agree the language evolves but then there are rules for a language that state what is right and what is wrong (spelling and grammar).
The other thing about being convenient; I think apart from a few things like using 'u' instead of 'you', 'r' instead of 'are' and 'ur' instead of 'your' people spend extra time to write in a way that they perceive is cool.
I do hope this habit is not natural and dies.
Monik score is (3-1) right now :-)
I am not an expert on the evolution of languages, but this is no evolution. Even if it is, I don't think its for the better (which contradicts the whole concept of evolution).
Moreover, SMS is different from email/messages/blogs/other write-ups and people should realize that.
As for our photos, I have uploaded quite a few on facebook :-)
Evolution is not always for bettr :)
Humans evolved from monkeys, but does not look like it is for better, we are evolving to self destruct along with the planet
